Preliminary Task

LOCATION

The location we filmed in is a classroom, this worked because the scene was focused around a rubix cube and an educational/intellectual background makes sense for the scene. We all took an active part in the filming because each person wanted to put a lot of input into the scene. However i was given the role as director of the scene so i had to decide when to start filming and cut filming. I also filmed one of the close up shots, the mid shot and a close up of the rubix cube sliding.

LIGHTING
For lighting we decided on having the classroom very light. This is because it was more representetive of an actual classroom, which was effective because it made the scene look a lot more realistic.

FILMING
We set up the camera correctly first opening the tripod up, then fitting the camera on top doing the white balance and bubbling the tripod to balance the camera. After each shot we placed the camera somewhere else with a different degree of angle therefore we had to bubble the tripod to balance it after each shot. We also check the framing was correct each time to make sure the shot would look at good and realistic as possible. We also had to move around the lighting equipment to make sure shadows were not cast into the picture and the lighting looked realistic. We also had to choose appropriate angles to represent the status of characters in the scene. We started filming first with a wide shot, establishing the scene, we ran this through the whole scene. Then moving the camera bubbling the tripod and starting the scene again from a different such as a close up. We did this several times getting over the shoulder, another close up, medium shots. We then filmed the entrance and exit of one character. Finally we focused on the movement of the rubix cube being slammed and then pushed across a desk and pushed back.
We had to take a lot of shots from different angles to make sure we conformed to the 180 degree rule. We had to think about it and move around desks and angles to make sure we didn't break the 180 degree rule. We also made sure we used the right terminology starting and ending the film.

CUT

So far i have learnt the basics of pratical film making such as the different angles representing the characters status. I also learnt about story boarding and the 180 degree rule all of which i had to think about whilst doing my preliminary task.

This is the story board we had to follow.
